Eminem is reflecting a blue colour, this has been done to emphasise the depression that he is going through and the tone of the album cover and songs. Furthermore, the back has an image of Eminem with his hands on his head. For example the front of the album cover’s colour theme is blue and black which is also defined in the back. This back of the album cover is very similar to the tone of the front. The two people by the barrier are Eminem and his daughter Hailie, and person in the boot/trunk is Eminem’s wife Kim Mathers. Blue is generically portrayed as a depressing colour, which emphasises the fact that the album is quite depressing.The characters in the album cover represents the main song in the album, “’97 Bonnie and Clyde”. The theme colour of the album cover is blue. The reason why each letter in “Slim Shady” is different is because Eminem is trying to portray his personality with colours. The album cover’s typography is very different to generic album covers, this is due to the different colours used in the title. This is the album cover of Eminem’s “The Slim Shady LP” which is his debut album that he realised on Dr Dre’s label “Aftermath Records”. Furthermore, at the top of the left spine and the bottom of the right spine, it has the different companies that were involved with the production, development and distribution. In the middle of the spine, it has a the name of the album and the artist that created it. The spine of the album cover is very simple. The white is a highlight of the key aspects of the album back. This has been done to emphasise the tracklist name. The typography is white which contrasts with the black background and the rest of the typography (number of the track and feature) is grey. The tracklist is on the left side of the album cover which is different to the previous album cover I analysed. The background is a faded out picture of the same van parked in a driveway. The actual image itself has ceases on it which are seen on physical photos after many years of existence. Normally thugs and criminals are associated with graffiti due to the fact it’s classed as vandalism. The typography of the album art is very messy and graffiti which portrays the gang culture sign. Minivans and 4x4s are generic vehicles that are used when a drive by or gang attack is to take place.

The black minivan with the tinted windows resemble the gang culture in the areas of Compton. The image is based in Compton, L.A the city in which Kendrick Lamar grew up in. The black minivan parked on the side of the road in a low end neighbourhood is used to resemble the atmosphere and environment in the area. This is the album cover of Kendrick Lamar’s “good kid M.A.A.D city”. This has been done on purpose to keep the typography consistent. The typography of the tracklist is the same as the front cover title. Furthermore, it helps the tracklist stand out as well. This has been dome to emphasise the “STOP” sign and the direction signs. The background is the same as the front cover, however it is faded out and is much darker. The back of the album cover is the tracklist, this is generic for all album covers. The other piece of typography is the “Parental Advisory: Explicit Content” which is on the front of most rap and hip hop albums due to the language and references that are used in the songs. The typography “2014 Forest Hill Drive” is white and simple which contrasts with the rest of the album therefore the title stands out. The background is blurred out and the image is focused on J Cole which means that he is the main rapper in the album which could also lead to the fact that the album has no other features. The fact that he is looking to the right might mean he is looking into his future. The roof he is sitting on is the roof of his old house. Furthermore, the idea of an album cover is to represent the ideology and the purpose of the songs featured in the album.įor example, this album cover for J Cole’s 2014 Forest Hill Drive shows the artist J Cole sitting on top of a roof and looking to the right. Album Covers are extremely important due to the fact that it is the main promoting stem that allows the album itself to be sold.
